The AIM of One's Life

There's no doubt that the purpose of man's creation is to worship God, and there's also no doubt that with the worship of God is closely linked the idea of serving human beings. Spirituality, according to Shah Waliallah,  consists of two things: our relation with the Creator, and our relation with our fellow human beings. In this way, one isn't complete without the other.

So human beings are born with a purpose, that's, the service of humanity. Now the question arises as to how we can carry out this noble task. Some say that their aim of life is to become a doctor while others strive for becoming a police officers and so on. Are these the aims of life? No, they aren't, but they are, as a matter of fact, a means to achieve that aim: to serve human beings.

There's no denying the fact that the role of an individual is of paramount importance in the service of his fellow human beings, but the question arises as to whether an individual can carry out all tasks himself without relying on others. The answer is in negative because man, as Aristotle said thousands of years ago, is a social animal: on account of his multiple needs__ food, shelter, sex, defence and so on__he is bound to live in society. In other words, the competition of his personality is a socially conditioned phenomenon. Now living in society, human beings interact with each other. They depend on each other by fulfilling each others' needs.

A teacher needs food to fill his belley, clothes to put on and a home to live in. On the other hand, a farmer needs a teacher to teach his children and in case of illness, they both need a doctor; hence, the dictum of mutual dependence is understood.

Everything in the universe has been created with a definite purpose, each one carrying out its own task, but contributing towards the smooth functioning of the larger scheme. Similarly desiring to be a doctor for the sake of itself shouldn't something be desirable. The same is true other professions.

Our purpose of life is then a binding force that stitches together threads of various and diverse colours onto a piece of cloth. No matter what someone is and where they have come from, they are all knit together with the "golden thread" of serving mankind. In a sociological perspective, when people from different professions gather for a common goal, a team comes into being.

A grain of sand is nothing in itself, but when many grains of sand combine, they make a desert as wide as one can see: the same is applicable to society.

Once Sir Shahzeb said, "The higher the purpose, the more one is able to develop one's skills." Why not to get to know the real purpose of our life___ the greatest purpose____ and to let our skills develop in the best manner?
